Matters are complicated by the fact that said Nilfgaardian leader’s daughter, Ciri, is someone dear to Geralt, and that a dark force–the Wild Hunt–is pursuing her. Nothing is going to be OK, but evidence suggests it was never OK to begin with, Nilfgaardians or not. Poverty is everywhere: alcoholism, boredom, listlessness. There’s the weak and the strong, and no grey area in between. The people in The Northern Realms are miserable. It’s not immediately obvious whether they’re a force for good or bad (especially if you’ve never played a Witcher game before), but one thing is certain: nothing is going well. The Nilfgaardians have taken, by force, most of the regions you’ll visit in The Witcher 3. His wit, his ingrained prejudices and allegiances, are just subtle enough that they don’t impinge on my ultimate control of who he is.īefore I get to the finer details, here are the cliffnotes: Geralt is tasked with finding the daughter of Emhyr var Emreis, Nilfgaard’s emperor. He’s a malleable character, and I feel more connected to him than I do the thoroughly customised RPG characters in Skyrim. Geralt has his complexities, but he inherits them from you. The truth is, he’s only the video game tough guy cliche you make him. It’s not that this fantasy is thoroughly objectionable to me, but it definitely seemed as if Geralt of Rivia was a boring video game tough guy. I’d see his face on marketing material and smirk: he was just another by-the-numbers video game power fantasy. I didn’t like Geralt before I started playing The Witcher games. He’s recalcitrant in the face of royal authority. He kills monsters, beasts and bandits along the way. Early on, The Witcher 3 has him exploring the Northern Realms, recently taken over by the warmongering Nilfgaardian Empire, for women he’s either a) in love with or b) eager to protect. He’s a gruff, powerful, chiselled, archetypal male video game protagonist. Good in the sense that they know what they're doing AND they have sound business ethics, where they don't try to mess with the consumer and treat him like a fucking walking wallet.Geralt is the hero. That shit requires some serious consideration and you gotta make sure you're supporting a good developer. I guess my point it, one shouldn't buy a CE lightly. Well, I mean, if RED meets the ridiculously high expectations of the Witcher 3 then I'll definitely buy another CE by them. And I seriously doubt I'll ever do it again. I have never, ever, paid that much for any game before. I told myself way before the reveal that no matter the price, I was gonna buy it. But RED are passionate, dedicated, competent, respect the consumer and don't try to fuck us in the ass by milking us with bullshit DLCs, so I am willing to pay that much. If it was ANYONE else, I'd tell them to go fuck themselves. I did pre order the CE for about 150 euros and my goooood it hurt my soul. The doodads that come with the edition are usually kinda cool. And with content I mean the game is usually not worth the asking price. I usually say, if a CE is over 100 euros then there's no way in hell I'm buying it. Non the less you do of course have my full support, I pre-ordered the "standard" pre-order edition immediately. I hope I will have enough money to buy the CE non the less, but I doubt it. I am not asking you to reduce the price (though that would be great), but I would love to hear a statement, a reason why this edition is so expensive, that would be really nice, especially since the original price listed was around 95 - 100 € and then the price went up. I myself am able to pay around 100 € for the CE but unfortunately not more. Non the less I would LOVE to buy the CE to support such a great developer.ġ39 € (in Germany(even 160 € in UK)) in comparison with 49 € for the "normal" pre-order edition is quite a difference ( precisely 2,836 times the price). That being said, I am a student and I have a limited budget. I also love that you do not have in-game pre-order boni because that is IMO a (cheap) move that is done way too often in the industry. I love what you did with the CE and other Editions of the Witcher 3 and I really appreciate how MUCH content we really get even with the "normal" pre-order edition.
